Whenever I think of Achievements, I think of Microsoft’s Xbox 360. I’m going to assume that you all know what that system is, but for the uninitiated, the Achievements system on the Xbox 360 is where gamers can go around and do certain things within the games they own and earn achievements, which in turn give you gamerpoints.
When you unlock one, a little box, akin to our mock up, pops up on the screen.
Nothing particularly spectacular.
Ok, so that’s not how it’s going to work in WoW. The nearest thing I can think of the WoW achievements is the title system in The Lord of The Rings Online. Where players again, grind or do certain things and earn titles and a bit of an XP bonus.
On the official WoW site, theygive the following blurb for the Lich King expansion:
World of Warcraft’s achievements system will launch with more than 500 individual achievements covering every aspect of gameplay, including world exploration, PvE, PvP, professions, and character development; from the purely whimsical to the truly epic, there will be something for everyone. Some achievements come with in-game rewards such as tabards, vanity pets, and titles. All of these rewards are purely cosmetic and just for fun, but you’ll certainly stand out when you proudly display them.
So basically, they mean diddly squat. On the plus side, we may have epic battleground matches again as Achievements are categorized into many different things.
These categories include Questing, PvP, and more. Some random ones like changing your hairstyle grants you an achievement too.
So the question is, are these really worth it? Is there really any point in adding this system to the game?
Personally, I think there isn’t but on the other hand it might give me something to do when I’m not grinding Honor for my S2/3 gear or when I’m not levelling my Rogue alt.

ITs exactly the same as the Achievement basis from the original Everquest. They started with a few hundred which ended up with over 2000 to actively choose from. At first its interesting, but after a short while it becomes fairly obvious that more expansions are released, based on added Achievements, just to screw us out of money.
Unfortunately this is nothing new, and just another way of trying to keep people tired with the servers. I say…BORING!

EQ had them?
What I don’t like is the Feats of Strength. Liek being the first person of Realm X to Ding 80 and so on.

I am pretty sure I read that you DO get some rewards for achievements. For example if you get 50 non combat pets, you get a pet skunk.

Yeah, but waht actual use would it be? For example, the special pet you got when you did some Battlegrounds over the course of the Bejing Olympics was well…..poor to say the least.
As long as they are actual useful pets/rewards we can make real use of, I’ll be happy. If not, then really, what’s the point?
